Reductive Catalytic Fractionation of Wheat Straw Biomass

چکیده

The reductive catalytic fractionation (RCF) is a promising method for the development of “lignin-first” biorefineries. Apart from widely investigated virgin woody biomass, it essential to explore potential waste biomass feedstocks. Herein, RCF wheat straw examined produce lignin mono-/oligomers along with processable carbohydrate pulp. use different catalysts (Ru/C and Ru/Al2O3) catalyst loadings (0–20% w/wbiomass) revealed superior performance Ru/C, which resulted in largest yield phenolic monomers (up ∼25 wt % initial acid-insoluble lignin) lowest formation high-molecular-weight fragments extracted oil. Furthermore, operating temperature was shown substantially affect both extraction–depolymerization polysaccharides preservation–processability. For reaction time 3 h, an increase 200 250 °C >2-fold boost yields oil monophenolics, while recovery decreased by about 30 (with ∼20% lower enzymatic digestibility). An economic assessment highlighted that high-temperature treatment becomes most profitable configuration as market price products increases. Overall, this work provides insight into adoption upgrading lignocellulose inexpensive available biomass.

The effect of wheat straw bleaching on some mechanical properties of wheat straw/LDPE biocomposites

Using biocomposites containing wheat straw (WS) and synthetic polymers like polyethylene (PE) has gained tremendous popularity, but its application in the packaging industry is not substantial. Due to the prevalence of raw WS color which manifests itself in the WS/LDPE biocomposite, the present investigation is dedicated to fabricate a bleached WS/LDPE composite. Thus, raw WS and the pulp of WS...

Multilevel composition fractionation process for high-value utilization of wheat straw cellulose

BACKGROUND Biomass refining into multiple products has gained considerable momentum due to its potential benefits for economic and environmental sustainability. However, the recalcitrance of biomass is a major challenge in bio-based product production. Multilevel composition fractionation processes should be beneficial in overcoming biomass recalcitrance and achieving effective conversion of mu...

Generation of electricity and analysis of microbial communities in wheat straw biomass-powered microbial fuel cells.

Electricity generation from wheat straw hydrolysate and the microbial ecology of electricity-producing microbial communities developed in two-chamber microbial fuel cells (MFCs) were investigated. The power density reached 123 mW/m(2) with an initial hydrolysate concentration of 1,000 mg chemical oxygen demand (COD)/liter, while coulombic efficiencies ranged from 37.1 to 15.5%, corresponding to...

Synergistic effects of mixing hybrid poplar and wheat straw biomass for bioconversion processes

BACKGROUND Low cost of raw materials and good process yields are necessary for future lignocellulosic biomass biorefineries to be sustainable and profitable. A low cost feedstock will be diverse, changing as a function of seasonality and price and will most likely be available from multiple sources to the biorefinery. The efficacy of the bioconversion process using mixed biomass, however, has n...
